warding off evil spirits is one of the reasons why we dole out money to buy fireworks and blast them. as the clock strikes 12 mn on new year's eve, the loudest and brightest fireworks and crackers reign. as a result, smoke fills the air and our eardrums, blasted as well. good thing, my mom walked past a few vendors earlier in the day. they peddle their own ware of spirit warders - the infamous torotot.
i can't really call the torotot as a musical instrument as it doesn't produce music. well, if you're into pitchy noise, the thing's for you. good thing though, amidst the danger posed by fireworks on new year's eve, on our hands is the ever safe and reliable torotot.
i know it can't compare to the piccolos and sawas and judas' belts and the crying cow but at least we know we have something to ward off evil. the torotot may not look as mighty as the lighted lusis of our times but hey, at least it's so handy without fear of accidents!
